2014 Workshop Dates and Locations

  • October 6-7, 2014 in Seattle, Washington, USA at the Mayflower Park hotel

Self Study only Option:

The self study portion of the certification program is also available as a package of online courses. It contains the same curriculum, but does not include the onsite workshop or certification exam. More information about the self study only option can be found here.

Curriculum

The On-line Self Study Component consists of recorded presentations and reading assignments. The self-study period will be eight weeks preceding the workshop. As a R.E.P. (Registered Education Provider), The Localization Institute has been approved by the Project Management Institute (PMI) to issue professional development units (PDUs) for its training courses. You can use the hours spent on the Localization Project Management Certification Program as PDUs if you are a certified PMP®, or use the hours as credits if you applying to be a PMP®.

Recorded Presentations

The 12 hours of recorded presentations are stored on a cloud based Learning Management system (Litmos) and can be streamed for easy viewing with a browser. Topics include: Global Readiness/Localization Maturity, The PMI and Localization, Technology Trends, Global Communication, Project Initiation, Project Planning, Project Execution/Monitoring and Project Closure.

The videos are interspersed with short tests to confirm your understanding of the material presented. Litmos also includes a feedback mechanism to ask questions and share answers.

Reading assignments

The 4 reading assignments will be a combination of a PDF that can be downloaded from Litmos, and articles available for viewing as part of your free digital subscription to MultiLingual Computing magazine. Topics include: Mobile Localization, Machine Translation Projects and Best Practices.

A complete list of topics is available here.

The Classroom component

The two days of classroom sessions will complete the PM certification program. The first day starts off with a review of the material covered in the self study, followed by sessions in which you will discuss, document and present localization project management topics in small groups. The second day will include case study presentations by localization industry leaders, and concludes with a two-hour certification exam.
