Game Culturalization 101: Introduction and Fundamentals ~ $200
Presenter: Kate Edwards
This seminar is applicable to those who are involved in the conception, creation and/or management of game content for global consumption. It is also appropriate for business management, legal personnel and anyone who must manage local customer expectations and feedback.
Rudimentary knowledge of the typical game development cycle and/or basic understanding of content localization are helpful, but not required.
As game developers rapidly move to distribute their content as widely as possible, they often overlook the challenges related to the cultural comprehension and acceptability of their content in new markets. While localization is a standard necessity for linguistic comprehension, ﾓculturalizationﾔ is required to ensure the content is adapted for a multicultural audience. Given todayﾒs dynamic game worlds and instantaneous global exposure, this seminar provides rudimentary steps to understand how local expectations impact the perception of game content and helps attendees begin to design content for multicultural audiences.
Attendees will learn the value of considering ﾓculturalizationﾔ as a value-added step beyond the typical localization of game content. A basic understanding will be attained for how local market forces and cultural considerations can impact content decisions in any video game project.

In addition, attendees will be challenged with exercises designed to test their application of the culturalization concepts and their ability to discern risks and opportunities.
Attendees will learn the essentials of a culturalization methodology for game content and will have experience with the process through hands-on exercises. This method can be immediately applied, towards the goal of creating more globally-viable content and maximizing the potential appeal and revenue in local markets.
